CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence
From September 2009 if you drive a bus, coach or lorry for a living you must hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC).
Driver CPC has been introduced throughout the European Union. Its aim is to maintain high standards of driving and improve road safety. Driver CPC covers anyone who drives buses, coaches and minibuses with nine or more passenger seats, and lorries weighing over 3.5 tonnes, for a living.
Driver CPC Initial Qualification
This is split into four parts, part one and three are the theory and practical test needed to gain the vocational licence. Part two (case studies) and four (practical demonstration) are optional but needed if you wish to drive a lorry or bus professionally.
To maintain the Driver CPC, you will need to do at least 35 hours of periodic training in each five-year period. The 5 years starts from the date you passed CPC Module 4.
Driver CPC Periodic Training
All drivers must complete 35 hours every five years on an on-going cycle to keep driving for a living.
