D (Bus) & D1 (Minibus) and D1+E (Minibus with trailer)
Cat D enables you to drive any bus with more than 8 passengers. To drive a vehicle which takes 9-16 passengers then you will need a D1 licence. If you want to drive a minibus with a trailer then we can train you for your D1+E licence.
The rules regarding the D1 category can be quite complex, so please feel free to contact us to find out any information regarding your licence.
To take the test, you will need:
- Be fully licensed to drive a car
- Be over 18 years old
- Have passed a medical
- Be in possession of a provisional D licence
- Have passed both the hazard perception and theory tests
The length of the course is tailored to suit your needs, with the test on the last day of training, all carried out in Hereford.
The test consists of:
- Safety checks on your vehicle and trailer
- Reversing exercise
- On-road driving
The test lasts approximately 75 minutes. The on-road driving part of the test is carried out to LGV standards; your training with DSA qualified instructors will cover on-road driving to ensure you are above the examiner’s expectations.
If you are planning on driving a bus or lorry for a living you will also need to pass the driver CPC initial qualification.
